“COMPASS” REPORT 2022 – COUNCIL ON COMPETITIVENESS OF GREECE 31
Society
and Talent
Education in Greece performs well, yet not quite in line with labour
market requirements. Universities produce numerous graduates
equipped with sound theoretical knowledge, yet lacking in
vocational and business skills training. Internships available to
students are limited, and this perpetuates the disconnect between
universities and business, preventing students from acquiring the
necessary work experience. Consequently, efforts to strengthen
the links and collaborations between educational institutions and
business are crucial for developing and enhancing the domestic
talent pool.
There is also room for Greece to improve in regard to the provision
of workforce training. Recently, there have been efforts by public
agencies, in partnership with major multinational companies,
to enhance skills acquisition in the country. Moreover, in recent
years, there has also been a relative decline in personal and social
relationships and bonds, possibly due to the pandemic. The state
as well as the business community should therefore focus on
improving these by re-activating social networks.
Finally, Greece has also performed comparatively well in terms
of access to tertiary education and as regards ease of social
integration.
