Environment

While the country’s performance in ease of starting a business is
strong due to the progress made in streamlining procedures, its
performance in the competitive environment sub-pillar is moder-
ate. Despite important developments, further standardisation of
public tenders (to avoid specialisations and restrictive terms) and
an expansion of tools to limit illegal employment and account-
ing irregularities can facilitate competitiveness, especially for
medium-sized enterprises, and can function as an incentive for
SMEs to scale up. There is still room for improvement as regards
business use of ICT, despite Greece climbing six places compared
to the previous year.
