BY WAY OF INTRODUCTION
In February of 2020, in the first edition of Compass, we determined key priorities to
increase Greece’s competitiveness in a volatile global environment. The pandemic that
followed has brought unexpected challenges, accelerated developments and, mainly,
caused radical changes to the way we live, work and communicate. During this period,
our country was successful in managing the crisis with consistency and significantly
speeding up the digital transformation of public administration, winning over the trust
of institutions and markets.
In the new normality that is shaped after the pandemic in the global economy, there are
significant opportunities for Greece to enhance its competitiveness by investing in its
advantages and adopting a new model of sustainable economic development. VASSILIS KAFATOS
Chairman of the Advisory
Board of the Council on
Competitiveness of Greece
The second issue of Compass breaks down the country’s main pillars of competitiveness
(Innovation, Talent, Infrastructure, Businesses and Institutions) as observed in the light of
current uncertainty, and identifies lines of action (calls to action) for launching growth
investments on a regional level, focusing on aligning skills with future challenges, and
highlighting the entrepreneurial dimension of innovation – measures that can contribute
to enhancing resilience and competitiveness for the country, in the very different future
that is upon us.
