“COMPASS” REPORT 2021 – COUNCIL ON COMPETITIVENESS OF GREECE 7
The pandemic continues to test societies and economies across the planet, demanding
increased attention from governments, who are called upon to manage this crisis as best
as they can.
Within this context, country competitiveness rankings may be secondary considerations
but, as this year's special WEF report makes evident, an economy's readiness to bounce
back and have prospects after the pandemic is entirely dependent on those key figures
that define its competitiveness and on the policies that make use of its competitive
advantages.
SIMOS ANASTASOPOULOS
President of the Council on If one were to take into account that reforms have been suspended to focus on the
Competitiveness of Greece urgent management of the pandemic and its effects on the economy, weaker and less
competitive countries are expected to fall even further behind more resilient economies.
As is also seen in this year's special WEF report, COMPASS 2.0 may be built on the five pillars
that outline the competitiveness of the Greek economy but it focuses on recommending
actions that will enable the fastest possible recovery for the economy after the pandemic.
It is more important than ever to continue the intensive reforms, in addition to the
policies that support entrepreneurship during the span of the pandemic, in order to have
reasonable prospects for quick and sustainable recovery and to reduce the productivity
gap that is stalling our economic development.
